Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, made a huge leap forward in connecting real life toys with a video game. In order to play this innovative new game, you need a Starter pack, containing amongst other things the video game itself (compatible with either a Wii, XBox 360, PS3, 3DS or PC), three Skylanders Figures and a Portal of Power. The player acts as the “Portal Master”, and begins by placing one of the Skylanders Characters onto the Portal of Power, the Skylander is then instantly transported into the the video game adventure. The player can change the character that they are playing with, by simply by swapping the figures on the portal.
The amazing thing about the figures is that all the character levels you have played, and any equipment or treasure you have collected are stored within the toy itself. You can take your Skylanders figure around to a friend’s house and all your upgrades will go with you. These characters will play on all consoles, so it doesn’t matter if you have a Wii and your friend has an Xbox 360.
Skylanders Giants will be a brand new video game, featuring many new characters. It will be a relief for many parents to learn that any existing Skylanders that you already own, are completely compatible with the new game, and any upgrades or customizations you have will still remain in the Giants game. In addition, the characters from the original game will be able to level up to 15.
It was exciting to learn that there will be 8 Giant characters in the new game, one for each of the 8 elements. The Giants, will as you would expect, are larger than the current figures, in fact they are around twice the size. The other cool thing about these special figures is that they light up when you put them on the Portal of Power.
The brand new Giants will have new in-game abilities, which existing Skylanders lack, however there will be other tasks that the smaller characters will have an advantage at. This ensures that players will want to own a mixture of both Giants and regular figures to play the game.

The New LightCore Skylanders
In addition there will be 4 never seen before LightCore Skylanders, which will also light up on the Portal of Power. These are:

Series 2 Skylanders
Finally, 24 of the original Skylanders Figures are going to be re-released as series 2 figures. The figures possess different weapons and the toys will be standing in different poses. Each of the series 2 Skylanders have a new “Wow Pow” upgrade power and the ability to choose more than one upgrade path. Also it is reported that the series 2 Skylanders can be played in the original Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure game.

All Figures designed for the Giants game have an orange base rather than the green one seen in Spyro’s Adventure.
Skylanders Giants has been designed with 3 levels of difficulty called Easy, Normal and Hard. There is also a 4th unlockable “Nightmare Mode”. This mode is unlocked only when you finish the game!
Skylanders Giants Starter Packs and Portal OwnerPacks
The game will be available to play on the Wii, Wii U, Playstation 3, XBox 360 and 3DS. However for each console there is a Starter Pack and a Booster Pack.
The Starter Pack is designed for players who are new to Skylanders, and contains a Portal of Power, the Video Game and 3 Characters which are Tree Rex ( a Life Element Giant), Jet-Vac ( a Brand new Air Type) and a new series 2 version of Cynder (the Undead Skylander reposed). In addition, the pack includes a poster and trading cards.

The 3DS Starter Pack contains a different combination of characters. Instead of Jet-Vac, it contains a special version of Pop Fizz, called Punch Pop Fizz, which is red in color ( a Brand new Magic Type).

Are you trying to play the Crusher figure on the new Skylanders Giants video game or with the Spyro’s Adventure game? If it is not working on the new Giants game, I would return it to the shop. The brand new characters and the Giants will not work in the old Spyro’s Adventure game. The only new figures from Skylanders Giants that will work in the new game are the reposed figures that were already in the old game.
We just got the giants booster pack as we have the spyro’s with the portal. We are not able to play two players. What are we doing wrong?

There is going to be a Booster Pack, containing only the video game and the first of the Giants Tree Rex. You do not need a new portal, and all the old characters will play in the new game, and you should be able to level them up to a higher level

I am not sure of the release dates for all the new characters, but Tree Rex is in the Starter and Booster Packs, and this a Giant.

This is the only information I could find on the Portal “The portal included with the Starter Pack for Giants has a slightly different appearance to the old one; the base of the portal (previously green) now glows the same colour as the top but the runes on the side no longer glow at all.”

All the Skylanders characters will work on all systems, however I am not 100% sure about the Portal. I suspect the Wii portal will not work on the XBox.

In order to play Skylanders Giants you need a Skylanders Giants Video game for Wii/XBox 360/Playstation 3/3DS etc, depending which console you have(this is a different game to Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure). The Booster pack contains the video game for Skylanders Giants and one Giant called Tree Rex. You do not need a new Portal, it is fine for Skylanders Giants. All your old characters can be used in the new game too, but obviously you need the actual Giants video game. You will not be able to play the Giants toys, unless you have the Giants video game. Hope this makes things clearer.

You can not play the new actual Giant characters (there are 8 of them) on the original game. Neither can you play any of the 8 brand new regular sized Skylanders Giants figures. However the new reposed Skylanders Giants figures, that were already in the orignal game, can be played in the original game.

Yes, Only 4 actual Giant Skylanders are available at the moment : Bouncer, Crusher, Tree Rex and Swarm. There will be 8 in total. The same gradual release seems to be true for the LightCore Skylanders, reposed Skylanders and brand new regular figures.

The main difference between the old figures and the reposed ones as I understand, is that the reposed ones have a new “wowpow” upgrade power, and a choice of more than one upgrade path. Other than that I think they are pretty similar to the old figures. The Trigger happy in the Giants single character pack is exactly the same as the one in the Giants Triple pack.

Skylanders:Spyro’s Adventure and Skylanders Giants are completely different games, although if you already have the first game, the portal and figures will play in the second game.
If you want to just play Giants, you do not need Spyro’s Adventure

All your Skylanders figures will play fine on the Xbox as they are the same for all consoles

I don’t think you can use the Adventure packs in the new game, but you can use the characters from the packs. We do not know yet whether there will be Adventure packs for the Giants game.
My son just received the new giants Fright Rider, Crusher & Swarm for his b-day yesterday. When he put them on his sypros portal it is saying “A toy on the portal of power can’t be used with this game” Does he need a booster pack and with this will ALL of the giants work on his existing portal or does he now need a new giants portal ? I wish they would have advertised this more clearer. It was quite a disappointment yesterday.
I think a lot of people are thinking that this is unclear when they are looking at the shop displays. All the new characters in the Giants game, that were not in the Spyro’s Adventure game, will not play in Spyro’s Adventure. You will need the Skylanders Giants video game. However you can use your old portal, and all your existing characters in the new game. The Booster pack/ portal owners pack contains just the game and one giant (tree rex).

The LightCore version of Jet-Vac is now available in a single pack, not sure about the regular version.
I purchased the portal owner pack and the Tree-Rex does not work when he is placed completely on the portal. It only works when it is placed partially on the portal or on the rock edge of the portal. When he is put fully on the portal, he disappears from the screen. All my other guys work fine. What should I do?

I would take the portal owner pack back to the store. That should not be happening.

hi my son has just brought pop fizz giant we have the original skylanders with the disc do we need the giant disc to enable him to play giant skylanders.

I feel very aggrieved that my Skylander-crazy son has just bought his first Skylander Giant to find out it does not work with Skylander Spyros Adventure. It was not clear in the shop display (Tescos) and the tiny note on the packaging was too easy to miss in the shop and we have only just seen it now. We do not want to pay an extra £45 to play with this Giant and want to know how to get our money back. Very disappointing Skylanders – you will have a lot of upset fans with this sly move.

I also bought the Giants Portal Owner pack with Tree Rex and while he worked at the beginning of the game, we now get the following message when he is placed on the Portal: “A toy on the portal of power can’t be used with this game” and then after a second or so it says to contact Activision Customer Service, which I will do but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem…
This issue has been resolved by GameStop swapping out the Tree Rex character for me from another box. They always provide great customer service.
If I have the original 3DS portal, will it allow me to play multiplayer on PS3? The portal size wouldn’t fit two giants completely. Will it still work if only part of the figure is on the portal?

I had a similar problem with Tree Rex, as described above, though with the Portal Owners Pack. I ended up returning it to GameStop where I bought it and the guy just swapped out the character for me from another box.

We just purchased Sklyander Giants Starter Kit for Wii and the portal does not work. We are really disappointed as we wanted to play right away. We have followed all the instructions and connected the portal to the back of the Wii. Any help?

If it is Tree Rex, and you are referring to the Giants game (not Spyro) then you should return it for a new one. Seems that there are quite a few defective Tree Rex characters out there…

Hi my son wants the skylanders giants for Xmas he already has the first skylanders for Xbox so I would only need to buy the booster pack. I was recently told in game that the new giants glow and eyes light up etc on the new portal of power but they don’t do the same on the old portal of power so you don’t get the full effect of what they are meant to do if I use the old portal of power is this true ? Would it be better to buy another starter pack so I get a new portal of power so I get the full effect of the skylanders giants?
We have the Giants, with an old portal and the Giants do glow. I know there are slight differences with the portal themselves, but our old Portal works great with the Light up Giants. We just got the booster pack.
